The options here are:

·Mapping Mode. This option is to do with mapping multiple items of metadata to a single custom field in your Portfolio™ catalog. (See Getting the most out of Metadata for more information about why you might want to do this.)

The Replace option ensures that when metadata is written to a custom field in Portfolio™ it completely replaces anything that was already in that field.

The Append option (together with the Separator text) ensures that when multiple items are written to a custom field they do not overwrite each other. Instead, they are all stored in the field, each separated by the text in the Separator box. This is the default option and the default Separator is a semicolon ";".

·File Extensions. This option forces FilFolio to always process files with certain extensions (Never Skip) and allows FilFolio to ignore files with certain extensions (Always Skip).

By default, FilFolio will never skip files with these extensions: jpg; jpeg; tif; tiff; thm. On the other hand, by default, FilFolio will always skip files with these extensions: txt; bmp; gif; png. You can change these defaults to match your own preferences by simply typing in the fields and using a separating character (the semicolon ';' is a good choice) between extensions.

You should note that the Never Skip setting always takes precedence over the Always Skip setting. That is, if you also put jpg in the Always Skip field so it appeared in both fields, FilFolio would never skip files with the jpg extension.

Those people who use Portfolio™ to catalog all files on their hard drives will want FilFolio to skip files of many different types (exe's, dll's, bat's, ini's, etc.) Instead of typing this (large) list into the Always Skip field, you can simply put an asterisk - * - there. This will tell FilFolio to skip all files except those with extensions appearing in the Never Skip field.
