Adding the Metadata
Main  Previous  Next

By the time you reach this topic you have (a) set up your mappings as you want them and (b) created the appropriate custom fields in your Portfolio™ catalog.

Let's assume that you're already running Portfolio™ and FilFolio. The Information Pane will look something like this:

user interface

It shows the currently active catalog and gallery. In this example, the catalog is called FilFolio Test Catalog and the currently active gallery in that catalog goes by the name Nikon. You can probably guess that images from Nikon digital cameras are kept in this gallery. The rest of the tree display shows the other catalogs and galleries that are currently open in Portfolio™, but not active. If you wish to switch to a different catalog and/or gallery, just click on its name in the tree list and FilFolio will make the switch for you and also automatically refresh the Information Pane.

If you want to extract the metadata from all of the items in this gallery, then click the All items radio button.

If, however, you only want the metadata from certain images then make sure you have selected those images in Portfolio™, click on the Refresh button in FilFolio and then click the Selected items only radio button in FilFolio's information pane.

Now click the Start Processing button and FilFolio will extract the metadata for you. Once processing has started, the Start Processing button's caption changes to Stop Processing, allowing you to stop FilFolio before it has finished processing all of the images.

During and after processing the Status pane will show you what's happening and any errors will result in the Error pane being displayed.

The final step, of course, is to view your metadata in Portfolio™. The next topic tells you how...
